For the first time, the nation's leading pharmaceutical research companies have agreed to work together, with the federal government, on accelerating progress in disease-specific research. This unprecedented level of collaboration is designed to result in new, more effective medicines for diseases such as lymphoma and other cancers, diabetes, and depression.
Ellen Sigal, of Friends of Cancer Research and chair of the public-private partnership committee of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, which will oversee this effort, says this is good news for patients.
