(INTRO)
Members of Congress, health care providers and other key stakeholders are speaking out in strong opposition to a proposal from the Bush Administration that would eliminate funding to hospitals across the country, denying care to the sickest, most vulnerable patients.
Christine Capito Burch, Executive Director of National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems says this proposal would have devastating consequences for the nations' health system.
(BURCH)
THE ADMINISTRATION'S PROPOSAL WOULD DRAMATICALLY REDUCE MEDICAID FUNDING TO SAFETY NET HOSPITALS AND HEALTH SYSTEMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THREATENING ACCESS TO CARE AND NEEDED SERVICES FOR MILLIONS OF AMERICANS. THESE PROPOSED CUTS WILL FORCE MANY PUBLIC HOSPITALS TO SLASH VITAL SERVICES. AT A MINIMUM, IF THESE REGULATIONS GO INTO EFFECT, THEY WILL DESTABILIZE THE HEALTH CARE SAFETY NET IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY AND ALL AMERICANS WITH AND WITHOUT INSURANCE, RICH OR POOR COULD LOSE VITAL SERVICES.
