Seasonal Residents in Florida

Stations, the following is a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1...

(INTRO)

Approximately 100 thousand snowbirds1 migrate to Florida every year. Being a seasonal resident can present challenges, including how to manage energy consumption, reduce mold and mildew, and handle bills while they're gone.

Florida Power and Light's Sharon Bennett gives tips for residents when they're away.

(BENNETT)

WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR HOME FOR A SUBSTANTIAL PERIOD OF TIME, TURN YOUR THERMOSTAT UP TO 85 DEGREES. ALSO, LEAVE INTERIOR DOORS OPEN, INCLUDING CLOSETS, TO ENSURE PROPER VENTILATION. IF YOUR REFRIGERATOR'S ON, USE THE WARMEST SETTING TO REDUCE YOUR ENERGY CONSUMPTION. AND, EVEN WHEN YOU'RE AWAY FOR MONTHS AT A TIME, YOU CAN USE ONE OF OUR CONVENIENT PAYMENT OPTIONS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR BILLS WHILE AWAY.

(CLOSE)

Bill payment methods such as automatic bill pay, email bills and extended leave options make managing bills easier for both seasonal as well as year-round residents. For more energy and saving options, visit www.fpl.com.

  1. one who travels to warm climes for the winter
